Memorials

When purchasing a monument, there are certain aspects that the informed consumer must be aware of before committing to a certain memorial.

Cemetery Rules and Regulations

Before deciding on a monument, please consult with your cemetery sexton or church to see if there are any types of memorials not allowed. Also, some cemeteries have size requirements, and it is best to know what is and is not allowed so that your memorial representative can offer you the best alternative choices if necessary.

Carving and Lettering

Make sure to spend a few minutes on the lot examining the carving and lettering on different monuments. Some monuments are not carved deep enough into the stone and, as a result, images and words will start to fade. Monuments with deep carvings are more likely to last hundreds of years.

Black Granite

If you decide to use a black granite, make sure that the granite does not contain any iron. One way to check is to bring a magnet with you. If it sticks, the granite contains iron, which may cause rust stains in the future.
